Communication Access Real-Time Translation (CART) is a real-time captioning service that provides deaf and hard-of-hearing folks with an access alternative to sign language. CART also provides low vision folks with a tool that allows them to enhance captions in a way otherwise prohibited within traditional conferencing platforms.
Birnbaum Interpreting Services provides both Onsite and Remote CART services:
Over the least few years, the vast majority of BIS customers have required Remote CART services. Remote CART offers customers a much more cost-effective solution while, in most cases, retaining the same level of functionality as is seen in Onsite CART.
As the federal government’s premier provider of FedRelay services, BIS provides hundreds of thousands of minutes of service on a monthly basis. We contract with agencies such as Department of the Interior, Department of Justice, and Small Business Administration. We also serve some of the nation’s biggest and most renowned private industries, educational institutions, and state and local governments.
BIS fields the industry’s best captioners, certified by the National Court Reporter’s Association and/or the National Voice Reporter’s Association. All captioners exceed the industry’s standards for speed and accuracy. Many of these resources are specifically preferred by consumers at the highest level of our client organizations, from Booz Allen Hamilton to Google DeepMind.
On top of all this, BIS also provides CART services across multiple languages. In fact, BIS is currently the top provider of Spanish CART for the FCC. We provide languages such as French, German, Hebrew, and much more.
Beyond CART, BIS provides Onsite and Remote TypeWell, C-Print, and Postproduction Transcription services.
While similar, there are important differences between CART, TypeWell, and C-Print. The former involves verbatim real-time transcription of any event. However, TypeWell and C-Print focus more on what industry experts call “meaning-for-meaning” transcription. These services are great for students, for instance, who require not only access but also an efficient translation of the concepts discussed.
Streamtext is an app that gives users a window specifically for their CART captions. Streamtext may be linked with any captioning software, and readers can read live transcripts on standard web browsers. (Free Streamtext Demo) It also allows for the safe, private delivery of transcripts following a request.
It’s important to note that clients don’t have to use Streamtext. We also offer captions integrated directly into your meeting window, whether it be Zoom, WebEx, etc.
