BIS has been fortunate to work with an amazing community of Deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing people, be they clients, interpreters, co-workers, or members of the community. To show our appreciation, BIS has established the BIS Gives Back (BGB) program.
Through the BGB program, ASL interpreters are provided for free at various community events that deaf and hard of hearing people attend. BGB also supports organizations, companies, and individuals to grow their relationships with the community by working with BIS.
A deaf-friendly business has received a certificate of completion from BIS for training on Deaf culture and the Deaf community, including learning about cultural differences and how to work with an interpreter. The alphabet and basic signs are also taught to management and staff. To receive deaf friendly certification from BIS, businesses agree to provide on-site interpreters when possible and use a VRI system otherwise.
