As a Deaf-owned and -operated sign language interpreting agency, we hold close to our heart the importance of Deaf access in education. BIS was founded by David Birnbaum, who experienced firsthand what it was like to go through school without access. Charged with the stories of his father—and mother—Birnbaum Interpreting Services’ CEO, Brian Birnbaum remains determined to provide access to students of all ages.

BIS has provided Deaf access services for schools at all levels, from K-12 to colleges and universities. As a former member of the Maryland School for the Deaf’s board of directors, David Birnbaum has long been an advocate for access in education, providing all forms of Deaf access service, from sign language and VRI to remote and onsite captioning. Our education clients include but are certainly not limited to:
